This sequel to Maggie's Dad is one of the author's best!

This is an incredibly sad book. Dawson and Barrie are step-siblings. She always had a crush on him but he distrusts women. During a family vacation in the French Riviera, the shy Barrie gets up the nerve to flirt with Dawson and, cynic that he is, he assumes she just wants to sleep with him. Anyway, he goes to her room that night and they have some less than memorable sex. She is completely ashamed of herself and he is too stuned to say much (what he does say is insulting). What follows is a series of misunderstandings, and, more than five years later, they are both painfully repressed and barely speaking to each other. I cried as I read about about all the hurts thay had inflicted on each other, intentionally or not. The path they took to find each other after everything was long and bumpy and well worth the read.

Maggie's Dad and Man of Ice. WOW! definitely this set is a keeper!
Ah, here we have Dawson Rutherford, age 36 [whee! a man with immense problems for his age] Angry, bitter, distrustful and need I mention jealous?
He is using the beauteous redheaded widow, Leslie Holton and his desire to purchase her property that lies between his ranch and Powell Long's ranch, to lure Barrie back to the home ranch in Sheridan.
You have to hurt for them as you become aware of their torment.
Five years earlier, Dawson the cynical cad took Barrie in a fit of passion. Whoa! you won't believe the emotional trauma that esculates and nearly destroys these two people.
Barrie, now 26, avoids Dawson like the plague and flirts with men by the dozens and Dawson avoids women and has become the "man of ice". Rumors abound about his not likeing women.
Dawson talks Barrie into excepting an emerald "engagement" ring to give the appearance of impending marriage to the widow, Holton.
I really enjoyed Leslie's insight into the facade. Again I don't want to give away the whole gist of the story but the story is heart rending and will keep you reading it in one sitting. It is power-packed with emotion and hard to put down.
Again HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --?? prove it to yourself [even the cover guy SD 1000 looks right for the story]

My favorite Diana Palmer

I think I have read this book over 10 times. My heart just aches when I read of how Barrie still loves Dawson despite the way he has always treated her. She tries to avoid him and let go of her love but she just can't. She has to help him no matter what the cost to her emotion. When Dawson finally tells her about his past and shows her his vulnrablity you will agree that this is Diana Palmer at her best.

Actually For Beginners

This was my first time reading any type of technical book since I left college. I was afraid that I wouldn't get much out of this guide, but it actually delivers. Set up in an easy to follow question and answer format, this particular book is actually appropriate for honest to goodness beginners. That is important if you are someone with no experience with PHP, SQL, etc. since a LOT of so called "beginner guides" expect readers to have some sort of familiarity with the information they are supposed to be teaching.

Since I desperately needed a book meant for beginners to help me with work and to customize a new blog I am happy I wasn't disappointed. So far it has helped me learn much more than I expected. As an added bonus, I was able to surprise my husband who works in network security and eats, sleeps, breathes, all things technological.

Great purchase

I really enjoyed the way that this book was laid out. I have taken the PHP final exam before but unfortunately did not pass. I gave up for a while but recently decided to give it another go. I tried one or two of the free books out there but nothing that was much help. Finally, I broke down and bought this book and I am glad I did. The author does a great job of breaking down each question into easy to understand lingo. It not only told me the correct answers to the question but also gave me an extremely detailed explanation of why it was the correct answer. I have been studying this book little by little over the past few days and already feel better about my skills. I would recommend it to anyone struggling with the PHP exam or job interview exam.

extremely helpful

I found PHP 100 tests, answers and explanations while looking for a book that would help me gain the knowledge I needed to pass this test. I have tried many other books similar to this but found all to be little or no help. I was thrilled with this books layout and easy to understand methods. Not only did this book give the answers but it gave the explanation as well which I found to be extremely helpful. After studying this book I now have the confidence that I will be able to not only pass the final examination but the job interview exam as well. I will definitely be using this book to brush up on my skills in the future as well.

In addition, he is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by HRCI. He has had extensive consulting experiences with organizations of all sizes and in a variety of areas. Firms assisted have been in the telecommunications, telemarketing, financial, manufacturing, retail, healthcare, and utility industries. Dr. Mathis has extensive specialized consulting experience in establishing or revising compensation plans for small- and medium-sized firms. Internationally, he has consulting and training experience with organizations in Australia, Lithuania, Romania, Moldova, and Taiwan.

Dr. John H. Jackson is professor of management at the University of Wyoming. Born in Alaska, he received his BBA and MBA from Texas Tech University. He worked in the telecommunications industry in human resources management for several years before completing his PhD in Management and Organization at the University of Colorado. During his academic career, Dr. Jackson authored six other college texts and more than 50 articles and papers, including those appearing in ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT REVIEW, JOURNAL OF MANAGEMENT, HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, and HUMAN RESOURCES PLANNING. He has consulted with a variety of organizations on HR and management development matters and has served as an expert witness in a number of HR-related cases. At the University of Wyoming, he served four terms as department head in the Department of Management and Marketing. Dr. Jackson received the university's highest teaching award and has been recognized for his work with two-way interactive television for MBA students. Two Wyoming governors have appointed him to the Wyoming Business Council and the Workforce Development Council. Dr. Jackson serves as president of Silverwood Ranches, Inc.

Dr. Sean R. Valentine is the University of North Dakota alumni leadership and ethics professor and professor of management. Originally from Texas, he received a BS in Management/Human Resources from Park University, a BS in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management from New Mexico State University, an MBA in Business Administration from Texas State University, and a DBA in Management from Louisiana Tech University. He was employed in the hospitality industry for many years and was an officer in the Army National Guard. During his academic career, Dr. Valentine published more than 75 articles in journals such as HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, HUMAN RELATIONS, HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT QUARTERLY, EMPLOYEE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RIGHTS JOURNAL, JOURNAL OF BUSINESS RESEARCH, JOURNAL OF BUSINESS ETHICS, JOURNAL OF PERSONAL SELLING & SALES MANAGEMENT, CONTEMPORARY ACCOUNTING RESEARCH, and BEHAVIORAL RESEARCH IN ACCOUNTING. His primary research and teaching interests include human resource management, business ethics, and organizational behavior, and he has received numerous awards and other recognition for his work. He also has consulted with a variety of organizations on different business matters.

Very good book especially for those applying for the HRMP text

Great content, poor form

This textbook has very good, up-to-date content that makes it an acceptable choice for using in any course on introductory principles of human resource management. It has a distracting weakness, however, and that is that its copy editing and proofreading were pretty poor. The book has a large number of writing errors in it. The errors are of pretty much every variety and category, including these:
- Misspellings (e.g., repeatedly misspelling "develop" as "develope" in chapter 4)
- Comma splices (chapter 2 has a nice one: "Audits frequently...to collect information, they may be performed by outside entitites...")
- Noun-verb number mismatch (e.g., saying "it is [singular] provided" when the the antecedent noun is "efforts" [plural] in chapter 8)
- Incorrect punctuation (e.g., "It is unrealistic: however: to expect..." in chapter 1)
- Errant words in sentences (e.g., "HR practices that to maintains a high-quality, workforce" [Yes, you're also seeing an incorrect comma and noun-verb mismatch in this awful sentence in chapter 2])
- And so on and so on.

If you're trying to get your students to write better in addition to learning something about HRM, this textbook may actually hurt your cause because it does not model good writing in many instances. I guess the authors and Cengage laid down on this one. Beware!

This text was required reading for a University level HR managerial class, but now I find out it is also one of the study text books for the state HR tests! That alone is a wonderful recommendation for this text. Each chapter outlines what it will cover, offers intelligent "thinking" questions after each chapter so you can practice what you have absorbed, & then pages of alternate subject matter resources. A must-have for every shelf of every HR administrator.

It was kind of entertaining, but it's not helpful if you are planing on applying to be a real special agent. It's written for someone who has already passed the tests to be an agent and I guess the FBI already has their own orientation books and courses. Also, the information is quit outdated. Don't recommend it.

Intimacy's Joys and Challenges

This book is a treasure, one that I will return to over time as Life's different lessons surface to challenge me. The authors present the many questions that arise from relationships beautifully, grounding them in the necessary but often-belittled work we must do on ourselves, alone as well as with another. Viewing the relationship entity itself as a third partner, the Beloved, helps in recognizing that we each interact not only with our partner, but also with the energy of partnership as though it were an individual. The chapters can be read either sequentially or separately as their specific energies are needed. In fact, I think the stand-alone nature of the chapters makes the book particularly useful. The meditations also work well whether you do them progressively or return to them as you feel the need for a specific meditation's strengths.
Most importantly, the book focuses on the importance of consciousness at all levels of relationship. The authors manage to make the book germane whether or not the reader is engaged in a relationship at the moment. Those who are in a relationship can use the book to deepen their bond and understand one another. Those leaving a relationship can use it to learn and heal. Anyone can benefit from the familiarity that comes from consciously examining their relationship persona and its impact on interactions with others.
Especially poignant is the chapter on conscious closure of relationship, providing insight and great support when saying goodbye to loved ones, whether the parting occurs through death or a decision to go separate ways. Understanding the importance of forgiveness and the role of ritual in taking affirmative steps towards making peace with partings is empowering. The authors gently address the pain of closure, and provide concrete examples that can help to ease the hurt while opening yourself up to the new beginning birthed by every goodbye.

Highlights the 'inner we'; me, myself and I.

What can one say about a study so profound, so in-depth and so passionately presented? This book of knowledge goes well beyond the relationship between two individuals. It guides the vision of oneself inward to the place where the whole personality can be found. If one so desires, the guiding hand of this study will walk with them through the twisting, churning pathways of cluttered, patterned thoughts to the freedom of the 'inner we.' It is in the answer of the discovery of me, myself and I that the inner sharing of oneself can truly be realized. The 'workings' of the Levine's is the unadulterated truth of postive energy at its highest level.

Good explanation

This text book was used in my Soil Mechanics class at Utah State University (where it was actually originally published); Which also means that the text book is a bit dated. The text book did a very good job at explaining concepts, principles, and theories in an orderly and understandable manner. The equations that are written and used a easy to understand and are explained well. There are example problems that are throughout the various chapters that help to reinforce the material. At the end of each chapter is a list of questions associated with the text. Sometimes I had a difficult time understanding the procedure to use for solving the problem because the problems would be slightly different then the examples used in the book, but that's expected of any textbook. I am not familiar with any other introductory geotechnical textbooks, but I would suggest this as a good place to start.
