This book both consummates and demonstrates the basic thrust of Jonas's thought: the inseparability of ethics and metaphysics, the reality of values at the center of being.

About the Author
Hans Jonas(1903-1993) was the Alvin Johnson Professor of Philosophy at the New School for Social Research from 1955 to 1976. He was born and educated in Germany where he studied underEdmund Husserl, Martin Heidegger, and Rudolf Bultmann. He left Germany in 1933 and lived in Palestine and England before coming to North America. He influenced ethical philosophy--especially bioethics--and the study of gnosticism.

Highly spiritual and respectful of the reader, the text is grave without being pompous. Philosophy without a doubt,nevertheless extremely readable. I recommend it for anybody in search of the meanders of soul and mind, never one without the other.

Absolutely amazing story about love and sex and LIFE

This book is a tornado of emotions.

Amy is a young woman immersed in a world obsessed with sex. Talking about it, judging it, doing it. Sex, sex, sex.
But the thing is, Amy is a virgin...and she's curious about sex. So what does Amy do? She asks her utterly delicious BFF to take her virginity.

And her BFF? Leo? He's... dreamy. You know the whole 'was-a-nerd-but-now-is-buff-and-dreamy-and-plays-guitar?' Yeah...that's Leo. And he's MINE. (Yeah, I totally already claimed him, ya'll, so back off.)

Anyway.. their story is so full of feels. Good feels in your chest, bad feels in your stomach...HOT feels that are totally in your pants. Feels, this book has lots of them. You will laugh, ache, cry - all. of. it.

Each character is so special in their own way, but when you combine them together...it's freaking magic.

The 'Such' is always worth it! Read this book!

Here's what I love about this author...she can write any genre and still connect with her readers. In this one she took to a different writing style but still gave what she gives to all books. Life. It's filled with all the youthful feelings and turmoil of falling in love, our first times, and figuring yourself out all at the same time. She threw in some humor, some amazing relationships between sisters, mom, friends at school, but most importantly for me community. It takes a village to raise a child is what they say...for Ames...it takes a neighborhood. For Leo it takes a deeper soul searching so that his community can "heal" him. Don't pass this read up! Go meet some amazing quirky characters. Fall in love again and remember that you can get through ANYTHING and one day you can be bigger. Bigger than a neighborhood. Just have to remember to be strong. Fantastic job to Author RK Ryals. Thank you for letting us into a new world again! I'm a fan for life! Can't wait for the next one!!!

Nuggets of Gold

Time is short but more than anything else I realize I like Ryals works so much because there's nuggets of truth and goodness in them. Every time, be it a fantasy, paranormal, or realistic fiction romance like Sex and Such, there's a little twist to get the perspective, a female voice that is strong because of the doubts and uncertainties, and every ending is earned.

Sex and Such is the first in a series I eagerly await. It's a book that shows depth does exist within the romance genre, that there's more to chemistry than a shape-changing he-man with no grasp of what to do with feelings. And trust me, I still love those stories. Sex and Such is like the startling minty taste of gum.

I've gone on much longer than planned and rambled, but what I'm saying is, yes, asexual and Such would be a good investment, a good read, particularly if you liked any of her other books.

good textbook for teaching both nonmajors and majors in biology

As a profesor, I use this book in my nonmajors Biology and Society class where it functions well to introduce nonscientist to interesting aspects of biotechnology and the important issues surrounding the science. I also use it in my upper-level genetics class where it works as a nice introduction to biotechnology (and review, in some cases) allowing us to delve deeper into the science and issues using assigned papers. I like it a lot, as do my students; and compared with most textbooks it doesn't cost much. I wish it had more color photographs.

How to find a job and make money in biotechnology

The focus of this book is what kinds of jobs and products can be found in the area of applied biology. The science and technology part is found in most of the modern biology texts, but what is lacking is a sense of how to apply that understanding to create new products and solve human problems.

This book is a little pricey and if you are only interested in the science and technology aspect you will be better served by buying a paperback edition of one of the better introductory biology texts. The price of several of the paperback intros to biology are less than this book, have many color plates and in depth coverage more three times the length of this book.

It's that focus on jobs and products that provides the justification for publishing this book. Hopefully it will provoke the authors of the major intro to biology texts to provide more material on where their students can later go for employment and how they can, by giving examples, go on to create products that improve the human condition.

If the reader emerges from their encounter with this book by thinking with an employment and products mindset towards the science and technology of biology than it will have fulfilled (in my mind) what appears to be it purpose.
