the definitive translation

This translation easly surpasses all others in print, even though scholars will still, I'm sure, refer to the AC Graham version (I will). Ziporyn has translated into current American English with style and clarity while preserving enough of the Classical Chinese cast of the text to make this a translation for scholars as well as students. I appreciate too how he has varied the translation of key terms with footnotes in romanized Chinese, so we can appreciate the dexterity of the translator's art as well as the one sustained Chinese term. Especially valuable in this edition are the superb commentaries which give significant new insight into the passages, especially for me Guo Xiang, Wang Fuzhi, and Shi Deqing. I used this text for the first time in a discussion class at Shimer College this past semester; our discussions reached a level of maturity and insight early in the course as great or greater than we achieved in a whole semester in other years. Clearly, I recommend it highly!

For those who find inspiration in Chuang Tzu, this translation of the text and the commentaries which have accompanied it from its original canonization to this day are a real treat. The translation of the text itself shows a true symapthy with its intended message. For those of us non-scholars of ancient Chinese, the commentaries provide a whole new dimenision of insight into the often obscure meanings of Chuang Tzu's work. One of their most daring tales to date - perfect for Halloween

When it comes walking that fine line between suggestively risque and erotically explicit, there are few authors with a stronger grasp on the story than Claire Bear and Courtney Captisa. While they lean a bit more towards the erotic side with Made Maidenly: Halloween French Maid Sissy, making it one of their most daring tales to date, they still stop just shy of revealing all.

There is a very good reason that Halloween is the official crossdresser holiday, loved as much by those who crave that one day of social acceptance as it is by those who desire to take advantage of that craving. There is a little bit of both here, with Ross reluctantly allowing his neighbor to feminize him, and with Abby . . . well, taking a little more delight in his humiliation than might be expected. The scenes of feminization are well done (as always), especially with Ross being forced to publicly model some of the sluttier costumes available.

It is at Zara's party, however, where Claire & Courtney really get a chance to show their stuff. There's some nice exhibitionism here, even more humiliation, and a friendship that hides the eventual threat of exposure. The story does take a twist in the latter half, going to a darker place than to which fans might be accustomed, but I loved the way all the themes came together.

Depending on who you are, Made Maidenly can be a nightmare or a dream come true, but regardless it is a fun story that is perfect for the season.

Feminization, kidnapping and slavery.

This book starts out like so many sweet feminization stories, with the petite boy being reluctantly coaxed into a feminine costume and even starting to enjoy it, but quickly turns dark.
What started as an amusing party turns into a not so erotic tale of kidnapping, torture, and mental rape.

Women might enjoy this book, especially if they imagine someone who mistreated them as the maid.

This might also appeal to extremely submissive cross dressers. Even transgender women will find parts of this story disturbing and uncomfortable.

This story of a guy who is invited to a Halloween party by a hot girl. The catch is his costume must be that of a French Maid .Once there Ross becomes the property of Zara who starts the process of turning him into a full time personal maid. There is no sex in this book just sissy transformation which is to bad .

About the Author

Bill Seiler is a professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he has taught since 1972. He was department chair for more than 20 years and now teaches and directs the introductory course full time. The Undergraduate Leadership Award was renamed the William J. Seiler Undergraduate Leadership Award to honor him and his leadership of the department. Other honors include Outstanding Educator of America, Outstanding University and College Teacher by the Nebraska Communication Association, Outstanding Young Alumni and Distinguished Alumni Awards from the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, and 2002 Boss of the Year Award. Bill received the 2013 National Communication Association’s Basic Course Division’s “Distinguished Faculty” award and was named to the 2013 Central States Association’s “Hall of Fame,” and in 2015 he received the National Communication’s “Wallace A. Bacon Lifetime Teaching Excellence Award.”

Bill earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, a master of arts from Kansas State University, and a doctorate from Purdue University. He is an experienced educator, consultant, researcher, and author in the area of communication and has an adjunct appointment in the Education & Human Sciences College. He is an avid golfer, who plays every chance he gets, which — unfortunately for him — is never enough. He loves his Nebraska Huskers. Bill and his wife Kathi have two daughters, Dana and Dionne; two sons-in-law, Lee and Wade; two grandchildren, Grant and Will; and three step-grandchildren, Zach, Stephanie, and Taylor.

Melissa Beall is a professor in the Communication Studies Department and a member of the teacher education faculty at the University of Northern Iowa. Dr. Beall, a proud Husker fan, received all three of her degrees from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Her areas of expertise include listening, intercultural listening, intercultural communication, communication and technology, and communication theory. She teaches oral communication, listening, language and communication, public speaking, critical thinking, college teaching, communication and technology, intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, and communication theory.

Dr. Beall currently serves as the chair of the UNI Graduate faculty. Her honors include Iowa Board of Regents Faculty Excellence recipient, 2012 Central States Communication Association Hall of Fame, International Listening Association’s Outstanding Listening Educator, Listening Hall of Fame, and numerous teaching awards. She has served on numerous editorial boards; presented more than 600 papers, programs, and workshops; is past president of the Iowa Communication Association and the Nebraska Speech Communication and Theatre Association; and is vice president of the World Communication Association, the Pacific and Asian Communication Association, and the International Association of Communication Sciences. She is an officer in her local AAUP chapter and is a past president of the Central States Communication Association and of the International Listening Association. She has also served as an officer in many divisions of the National Communication Association.

Joseph Mazer is an associate professor and associate chair of the Department of Communication Studies at Clemson University. At Clemson, he is Director of the Social Media Listening Center, an interdisciplinary research lab and teaching facility that provides a platform to listen, measure, and engage in more than 650 million sources of social media conversations. His research and teaching interests are in instructional communication, social media and interpersonal relationships, quantitative research methods, and the introductory communication course. Joe is listed among the top 1 percent of prolific scholars in the discipline of Communication Studies spanning 2007–2011, according to a study in Communication Education, a journal published by the National Communication Association. He has received international, regional, university-wide, and departmental recognition for outstanding teaching. Joe is a past recipient of the Outstanding New Teacher Award from the Central States Communication Association and the Outstanding Professor of the Year Award from Clemson University’s Department of Communication Studies undergraduate student body.

Joe is an active member of the National Communication Association and Central States Communication Association, where he has held several leadership roles; serves on editorial boards for several journals; and is Consulting Editor for Forums for Communication Education and an Associate Editor for Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Joe received his Ph.D. in communication studies from Ohio University, a master’s degree in communication from Illinois State University, and a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Mansfield University. Joe resides in Clemson, South Carolina, with his wife, Chrissy, and their children, Claire and Owen. As of this writing, they are participating in Clemson University’s Faculty in Residence program and make their home in a first-year student residence hall on campus. Together, they enjoy spending time with students in their community and cheering for the Clemson Tigers!

The CHaD has been tested on normal and pathological individuals for over ten years. Clear guidelines can now be set down for administration, testing, and interpretation. Obviously, a projective test can never be more sensitive than the professional who uses it, but it is Davido's intention that the theoretical underpinnings and her presentations of case studies along with the drawings will help other practitioners deal better with the needs of their patients.

Drawing the Hand that Disturbs

Dr. Davido's new book is a unique contribution to the field of psychological assessment. It seems to tap an even deeper subconscious level than the more traditional House- Tree- Person drawing techniques. This format requires that the administrator have prior training in interpretation of psychological tests, but anyone with mental health training can be taught to utilize her technique to bring forth valuable material from a client. The four components involve a Childhood Drawing, a drawing of a Hand, and then the more powerful Hand that Disturbs. With children, an additional Free Drawing is also utilized. As with most projective or objective self-report tests, the skill of the examiner is paramount to the effective interpretation of the results. Dr. Davido demonstrates her remarkable skill and intuition in a number of cases... especially those involving childhood sexual abuse. The general orientation is one of psychoanalytic conceptualization, but the inferences advanced are clear enough for clinicians of any persuasion. Although this technique does not lend itself to rigorous statistical analysis and validity studies, its major function is to initiate a dialogue between therapist and client about issues that, here-to-for, have remained unconscious. I think Dr. Davido's literary style comes to light when she states: " magic operates at its best in the hand that disturbs, where the examinees are granted their wish to see their worst nightmares take shape in the form of a hand that metamorphizes into a monstrous creation, amputated fingers, twisted, gnarled, with pointed witch's nails or Dracula's grasp. Just as in fairy tales, the hand that disturbs is a frightened hand, one that rekindles what were thought to be the extinct fears of childhood." There is much more that can be said about this book, but the American reader soon realizes that this French viewpoint on projective drawing techniques will most certainly advance our range of understanding.

Another thoughtfully published book crammed with beautiful designs!

So far, I have loved all the books purchased from this publisher (creanon). This one is no exception! It is crammed full of beautiful designs that as yet are previously unpublished within the US. The author is also a very accomplished designer in her own right, and among my favorites. The designs within are well illustrated, thoughtfully diagrammed, and surprisingly easy to follow. Most of the books from this publisher are written in German, but this one in particular can be found in either German or English. Just beware, that the English version does have some confusing speach patterns. Some instructions may be a little harder to follow because of this. It seems like the English version was written with a non native speaker so it follows along those lines. Otherwise this book is well worth the purchase and don't let that little "hiccup" get in the way of a wonderful book! These are the designs included: 5 necklaces, 5 bracelets, 3 pendants, 1 pair of earrings, 4 rings, and a few variations. Most of these designs are made using components, so you can easily adjust them to design your own variations, such as bracelets, earrings and so forth! I myself already have my eyes on a few necklace designs, that I think would make awesome bracelets! Anyways, you will not be disapointed with this book!

GREAT Book!

I love Sabine Lippert's patterns and colourschemes and follow her religiously on social media, which is why this book was such a fun find...this was entirely composed of fresh, new projects in exciting colourways I hadn't seen her use before! Very fun, quick projects with interchangeable components (if you have an intermediate level of beading experience) in a thin, portable tome that is full of delicious pictures and straightforward diagrammes for a nice variety of different ideas. Definitely a winner!

A former gang member and juvenile delinquent, Rios managed to escape the bleak outcome of many of his friends and earned a PhD at Berkeley and returned to his hometown to study how inner city young Latino and African American boys develop their sense of self in the midst of crime and intense policing. Punished examines the difficult lives of these young men, who now face punitive policies in their schools, communities, and a world where they are constantly policed and stigmatized.

Rios followed a group of forty delinquent Black and Latino boys for three years. These boys found themselves in a vicious cycle, caught in a spiral of punishment and incarceration as they were harassed, profiled, watched, and disciplined at young ages, even before they had committed any crimes, eventually leading many of them to fulfill the destiny expected of them. But beyond a fatalistic account of these marginalized young men, Rios finds that the very system that criminalizes them and limits their opportunities, sparks resistance and a raised consciousness that motivates some to transform their lives and become productive citizens. Ultimately, he argues that by understanding the lives of the young men who are criminalized and pipelined through the criminal justice system, we can begin to develop empathic solutions which support these young men in their development and to eliminate the culture of punishment that has become an overbearing part of their everyday lives.

In this compelling sociological narrative, Rios describes the problems facing black and Latino youth as they come of age. A former gang member who went on to earn a Ph.D. at Berkeley, Rios returned to his old Oakland neighborhood to shadow 40 young men as they dealt with poverty, violence, and institutionalized racism. As he recounts their life stories, Rios deftly balances analysis with vivid anecdotes about uninterested educators, struggling parents, police brutality, and gang victimization. From elementary school on, teachers and law enforcement mark these boys as "dangerous" or "difficult," and harshly punish them for petty infractions. Once they accumulate "negative credentials," the young men are subject to increased surveillance—and are consequently more likely to end up in prison. Readable, Provocative, and Smart

Based on three years of research with 40 Black and Latino boys in Oakland, California, Victor Rios provides just the right blend of the boys' personal stories, his own critical analysis (and perspective as a former gang member from this community), and social science theory. He illuminates the processes of punitive social control that are taking place nation-wide, but focuses on the specific political-economic context of Oakland. His central claim is that the "youth control complex" systematically criminalizes young people; police harassment, while pervasive, is only part of the youth control complex. Families, schools, businesses, community centers, and probation officers, even while they are trying to help young people, are integrated into a web of punishment. As I read, I was caught up in the stories of the young men and gained new insight into their daily lives and struggles. Rios doesn't romanticize their lives or excuse their bad behavior, but he does show how limited their options are and how their efforts to turn their lives around are often undermined by the same individuals and institutions that are telling them to change. He shows that seemingly self-destructive behavior makes sense once we understand that the teens are striving for dignity, even when they know it will result in a loss of freedom. While all of the boys understand the processes of criminalization that enmesh them, some of them become activists protesting police brutality and mass incarceration. Rios ends on a hopeful note, calling for a "youth support complex" to nurture the great potential of the young people in our society who currently face not only enormous odds against them but also a system that is actively pushing them into criminality.

"Punished" is written beautifully!

This study, conducted by author Victor M. Rios, focuses on the institutional injustices faced by Black and Latino male youth. Although, as a minority, I was already aware of such injustices, Rios' work provided me with the vocabulary necessary to further comprehend "the system." Overall, my opinions were changed. I once dubbed my low-achieving, male peers as lazy wanna-be delinquents. After reading "Punished," I realized these boys are not to blame. There are so many outer forces prohibiting these boys from realizing their full potential.

Everyone should give this book a read! It'll definitely teach you something new.

Excellent book.

A compelling story which needed to be told. I especially value that this book was written by an academic who is person of color who has experienced the over policing/under policing contradiction that is endemic in inner city communities, rather than by a well meaning "white anthropologist" researcher.
